Texas Legends Care, presented by Ryan, LLC, the official 501C3 foundation of the Texas Legends, has announced a partnership with Dr Pepper to present a new season-long community initiative named “Dream Maker”. At each of the Legends’ 24 home games a member of the community will be presented with a charitable gift aimed to fulfill an unmet need.
The “Dream Maker” program stems from the charitable nature of all of the Texas Legends home games –as every game will highlight a selected non-profit charity. “Dream Maker”, presented by Texas Legends Care and Dr Pepper, is designed to combine the charitable initiatives of the Legends and their partners with individuals in need throughout the Dallas Metroplex. Individuals may request any number of “Dreams” – with the exception of asking for a cash donation. Families who have suffered a recent loss, looking for a unique birthday or holiday gift, or have any other needs, can all submit their wishes. Requests can also be submitted on behalf of others.
“The “Dream Maker” program is what life is all about,” commented Texas Legends Care representative Donnie Nelson. “The ability to help improve others’ lives via the variety of services and opportunities the Legends and our partners can present is second-to-none. This is an opportunity to give back to those in need by combining all of our efforts.”
The program will kick-off immediately with a web portal found at www.TexLegends.com where members of the community may submit a request for themselves or others describing their need. The Texas Legends Care Foundation will then submit all requests to a panel review board which will choose one family or individual to invite to a home game and present on-court with the charitable gift.
“Like Dr Pepper, the Metroplex is one of a kind, and we are proud to support this community through the Dream Maker program and help make a difference in the lives of North Texans and Legends fans,” said Jim Trebilcock, executive vice president of marketing for Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
The Dream Maker series announced the first recipient during their home opener Saturday, Nov. 22. Legends fans learned the story of Hayden Bruner, a 7-year old boy fighting against leukemia. Hayden was introduced to the Legends by sponsors Tim and Leslie Grubbs who heard Hayden’s story and granted his wish to go to Legends’ basketball camp. After camp, Hayden saw another dream come true when Legends’ owner Donnie Nelson introduced him to Mavericks’ big man Dirk Nowitzki who challenged Hayden to a game of one-on-one. Hayden kicked off the season opener with his story of hope and reminded Legends’ fans of the team’s true mission. Dr Pepper and Dream Maker will highlight a new recipient each game as they work to make an impact on the community around us.
