Warney Leads Legendary Fourth Quarter Comeback

Official Release | March 23, 2017

The Texas Legends (24-22) posted an 18-point comeback to defeat the Western Conference-leading Los Angeles D-Fenders (32-14) 132-128 Wednesday night in California.

The D-Fenders took an early lead and built the advantage to 15 at the break behind double-digit scores from four of the five starters. Justin Harper hit back-to-back threes early in the third and the D-Fenders carried their largest lead of the night (+18). Ben Gordon fired back for the Legends, hitting three from outside and tallying 11 points to cut the deficit to nine. DeJuan Blair opened the fourth with a layup to put LA back up by double-digits, but Texas responded with an 11-0 run to tie up the game for the first time since the early minutes.

The two teams exchanged baskets for the next eight minutes, tying it up six more times and flipping leads seven before Texas grabbed the final edge on a three-point play from Jameel Warney. The big man finished with 17 points in the fourth, leading the rally that Stephane Lasme would seal.  With 5 seconds to play, Lasme sunk the D-Fenders with a long ball and Texas tied the season series at two games each.

The two teams combined for 17 points 35 three-pointers with the D-Fenders taking the edge off of 58% completions to Texas’ 40%.  The Legends beat the home team on the boards 43-39, but the real difference came off Texas’ 29 second-chance points that nearly tripled the D-Fenders’ 10.

Warney finished with 33 points, shooting 13-of-15 and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line, while adding 8 boards.  Lasme (23 points, 11 rebounds) and Pierre Jackson (13 points, 10 assists) each added double-doubles while Ben Gordon (19), Andre Dawkins (16), and CJ Williams (10) all grabbed double-figure scores.

Justin Harper led the D-Fenders with 24 points and Josh Magette dished out 15 assists with 16 points for the team’s only double-double.

The Legends will take on the Northern Arizona Suns Thursday night for the last of their six-game road trip.  The game will be broadcast live at 8:30pm CT on www.TexLegends.com.  Texas returns home for the final regular season game in Frisco this Saturday at 7:30 pm CT as the Legends host the Austin Spurs.  For tickets or information call 214-469-0822.
